| 20 Energy Efficiency Tips for Lighting and Appliances |

 There are some very simple thing you can do to affect your electricity bills for lighting and appliances.
1. Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents.
2. Turn off lights when you leave a room.
3. Turn off equipment or appliances not in use. Use switched outlet strips for appliances that draw current when not in use.
4. Unplug unneeded equipment that draws electricity especially during vacations.
5. Clean light fixtures. Dirt reduces light output.
6. For outdoor lights, install an occupancy senor that will turn on lights when needed.
7. Light colored rooms require less light. White ceilings reflect light back into the room.
8. Use natural daylighting where possible.
9. Use task lighting. Room lights should provide enough light to see a space. Use reading lights and work lights where visual acuity is required.
10. Use solar-powered lights for yards or walkways.
11. When you purchase a new appliance, TV, or VCR, look for the ENERGY STAR logo which indicates a high efficiency product.
12. Use cold or warm water for clothes washing.
13. Cover pots and pans when cooking.
14. Operate dishwasher, clothes washer, and dryer only when full.
15. Use a microwave oven rather than a regular oven.
16. Turn off oven burners or oven a little before food is done and food will continue to cook.
17. Clean lint filters regularly in clothes dryers.
18. Turn off dishwasher when it reaches the dry cycle, crack the door and let the dishes air dry.
19. Clean refrigerator and freezer coils.
20. Set refrigerator temperature to between 36-39 degrees F.
