The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) has announced the availability of EE203: Lighting & Commercial Energy Codes, a new course added to its popular Education Express program. Residing at the Association’s website www.aboutlightingcontrols.org, Education Express provides in-depth education about lighting controls and controllable ballast technology, application, system design and commissioning, as well as meta-issues such as LEED, energy codes and other trends.

Commercial energy codes are required in most states, typically based on either a version of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1 or the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Various versions of Standard 90.1 are also targeted as a reference standard to beat by the Commercial Buildings Deduction and the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system.

EE203: Lighting & Commercial Energy Codes provides guidance to compliance with the lighting aspects of Standard 90.1 (1999, 2001 and 2004) and IECC (2003 and 2006), with special focus on making the right lighting controls choices for compliance. Process maps outlining each step towards compliance provides a graphical learning experience and enables students to easily visualize the process.

At the conclusion of the course, an optional online comprehension test is available, with automatic grading; a passing grade enables the student to claim education credit. EE203: Lighting & Commercial Energy Codes is accredited/registered with the National Council on Quality in the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), which recognizes 7.5 LEUs towards maintenance of Lighting Certified (LC) certification; the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), which recognizes 0.75 CEUs towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) certification; and the interNational Association of Lighting Management Companies (NALMCO), which recognizes 15 Education Points towards maintenance of its Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) certification.

Since its launch in June 2006, Education Express has served more than 3,000 students, who have benefited from more than 7,500 completions of learning modules and more than 3,000 comprehension tests taken online, enabling them to earn education credit.
